Learning Challenge: Staying Focused

Image
I read the article, " 40 Entrepreneurs Share Their Secrets to Staying Focused". One thing I struggle with a lot would be staying focused. As soon as I start an assignment I tend to drift my eyes toward my phone or something else on the computer screen. That is really detrimental for me because many times I do not understand what is going on in class and it is terrible when I am doing timed assignments. However, focus problems can occur in all aspects of life, not just the student life.  Therefore, I wanted some advice from several entrepreneurs and see what works for them.  An entrepreneur, Amber Venz, from RewardStyle states that we should say no. I have a major problem with saying no. However, I am working on it. I told someone today that I would not be able to cover their shift because I was planning on working on my studies today. I think that is a major step to saying "no" more often. Within my life I never realized that by not saying no I was not staying focu

Tech Tip Week 13: Class Announcements Email

Image
I am glad I just subscribed to the class announcements. I like how with this class we are able to view announcements and it is always a great experience looking at them. I like how many times are there funny pictures and interesting videos to watch within the announcements. That is one thing that sets this class apart from many others. It also brings color and life to the class page on Canvas. As of right now I do not have any advice to make your announcements even better than they already are. However, if the opportunity does come, I will make sure to give out recommendation on how to improve the Canvas announcements page.                                                                               A picture of a notepad with announcements. Tech Tip Week 12: AutoMotivator

Image
Here is my AutoDeMotivator I made. Source: AutoMotivator I liked getting to create my own AutoMotivator picture. I decided to create a DeMotivator though because we were given the option. I chose a picture off the website. The quote I used was one I created myself. What attracted me to the picture was the light shining on the person. Where there is light there is usually a shadow somewhere, so I thought the quote was a good fit for the image.

Tech Tip: Week 11: Einstein Chalkboard

Image
My Einstein Chalkboard Picture.  Source Hetemeel Creating my own Einstein Chalkboard quote was fun! I choose to write "Just believe it, and maybe you can succeed" because it takes more than just believing. It also takes action and dedication to accomplish goals. I also changed it to I=tried because that is how I am feeling at this point in the semester.

Week 8 Extra Reading Krishna Defender of Dharma Part C

Image
I did the Reading for Week 10 which has the first two parts of Krishna Defender of Dharma Part A and Part B. Click on the links provided and it should take you to the notes about those. I have not done the extra credit reading for Week 8, so Part C will be going towards that. The story picks up with Krishna and Balarama completing their education and a new enemy emerges, Jarasandha, the father of both of Kansa's wife. It is crazy to think both sisters ended up marrying Kansa. Jarasandha and his allies are getting ready to attack Mathura, so Krishna surprisingly suggests that the people of Mathura should run away. A demon looking creature Kalayavana chases Krishna around the world trying to kill Krishna. It is comedic seeing the various environments drawn out within the graphic novel showing Krishna running away. Krishna lured Kalayavana to a cave where a sage, Muchunkunda, who slept endlessly rested. However, Kalayavana woke up Muchunkunda and the sage was upset instantly killing

Week 10 Reading Part B: Krishna Defender of Dharma

Image
Within the beginning of the reading for Part B, Krishna and Balarama are still little kids. During one event, the universe was found within Krishna's mouth, which is crazy but makes sense since he is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It was awesome when Krishna as a young boy went into the poisonous water and fought the snake Kaliya and performed "the cosmic dance of creation and destruction" on the snake. Krishna is also a trickster though! He likes to perform pranks. A random stork demon swallowed Krishna, but Krishna yet again escaped splitting the stork in two from the inside. It is funny every time how people are worried about Krishna, yet every time he manages to defeat a demon. With the demon donkey, Balarama was able to defeat him this time and not Krishna! One after the other Krishan and Balarama defeat the demons sent by Kansa to kill them. Krishna even scolded the god Indra for being prideful. Indra asked for forgiveness! Eventually, Krishna killed Kansa! Whoa, I

Week 10 Reading Notes Part A: Krishna Defender of Dharma

Image
For this weeks reading notes I decided to take notes on the graphic novel, "Krishna: Defender of the Dharma." Within the first few pages of the reading an evil demon by the name of Kalanemi has incarnated as Kansa who seems to be quite the bit of trouble. Kansa dragged his father, the King, into a dungeon in order to take his earthly treasures. Kansa sounds like a very evil spoiled brat. Kansa became more powerful than Indra, so Indra went to Lord Vishnu for help. Kansa is then cursed and his sister eighth child will end up killing him. Therefore, he goes and locks up his sister and her husband. This graphic novel is insane. Kansa decides that he will kill all his sisters children and within the novel when his sister gives birth, he takes the child and squeezes it to death instantly killing it. It is really graphic! Through the creativity of the gods, the last two children lived and they were named Krishna and Balarama. Kansa has called on the demon chiefs to hunt down and k

Famous Last Words: Barely Surviving This Week

Image
This week has been crazy. Craziest week I have had yet and it still is not over. These past few days I have been living and breathing Physiology. I survived that exam and now I have another exam coming up for my Crusades class. In addition, next time I need to remind myself to ask off for work when I have multiple papers and a test due. Even though midterms are not over for me just, yet it is nearing the end. For those who are also struggling, we will get through this! I have been away for a few days from this class, but I want to make sure I finish up all my extra credit for this week, or as much as I can. One good thing about this week is Captain Marvel. I will probably be seeing that this week so it will be a good break away from all the schoolwork. I hope Captain Marvel has been as great as all the other Marvel movies. I would say my top three Marvel movies would be Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor: Ragnarok. I will be going into Captain Marvel with high expectati

Week 9 Story: Soorpanaka's Love

Image
"That man will be mine," said Soorpanaka. Soorpanaka was the wild and deceitful sister of Ravana. She was given her own forest to rule and Soorpanaka made sure to greet her guests with open arms. There was one major problem with Soorpanaka. She greeted people by eventually killing everyone who entered her territory. One man caught her attention though. Someone she may have just loved and no it is not Rama. That would be such a predictable story. That is a different story. The man she wanted before Rama was named Kabir. Kabir had built a house within her forest territory. Soorpanaka was quite displeased because she that people cut her trees down and built houses. She was on her way to kill the unwanted guest until she who built the house. She saw a handsome man, Therefore, Soorpanaka transformed herself from an unwanted hideous creature to a beautiful woman. She went up to the man and welcomed him. "Hello, how are you doing today?" said Soorpanaka.  &q

Tech Tip Week 10: Graduation Countdown

Graduation Countdown Countdown Here is my graduation countdown! It was exciting and also a little worrying creating this gadget. I am not sure I am ready to graduate just yet. Either way it was cool being able to make a graduation countdown!

Week 7 Wikipedia Trails: From Durvasa to Mandar Parvat

Image
The first topic I wanted to search on Wikipedia was Durvasa . He is a sage that casts curses on people, while also sometimes rarely giving people blessings. He is known for being ill tempered and he was a major reason why the churning of the ocean needed to be done. Then from Durvasa I clicked on the Samudra manthan . This is an episode that involves the churning of the ocean found within the Mahabharata Bhavagata Purana. It is interesting that this is found in several different sources and how the telling of the story may be a little different in each source. From there I clicked on Mount Mandara . Mount Mandara was actually used as the churning rod by the gods and demons to churn the ocean. Lastly, I clicked on the Mandar Parvat , which is a small mountain within the district of Bihar. Supposedly, this may have been Mount Mandara that was used to churn the ocean.                                                                               This is the statue of the Mandar

Reading Week 9 Mahabharata Epified Part B

Image
For the 2nd part of the reading I continued watching the Epified videos of the Mahabharata. The first thing I noticed when watching the videos is Sage Durvasa. I found it so funny that Sage Durvasa is known for putting curses on people because for Week 7 I wrote about the Churning of the Ocean and how Sage Durvasa was one of the causes of that event due to a curse. WHAT! I forgot that Sage Durvasa left a blessing for Kunti. I am honestly so surprised. The whole situation surrounding Karna is sad. I wish Kunti did not give Karna away. I liked how the sons of the Pandava family were introduced. They are gifts from the gods! I am definitely team Pandava. In the future, they will prove why they are great rulers. In addition, I like how Drona observed that each of the brothers were skilled at different things. For example, Arjuna was the most skilled with weapon making the perfect warrior. He was exceptionally great at archery.

Reading Week 9 Mahabharata Epified Video Part A

Image
For this reading, I decided to watch the various videos by "Epified" concerning the Mahabharata. I like this alternative to reading a novel or a graphic novel as I have done in the  past. Watching the people narrate the stories while drawing them out helps me understand the Mahabharata in two different ways. Watching the Epified version I forgot various things that I had read from R. K. Narayan's version of the book. Watching this refreshes my memory and helps me understand better what happens within this ancient epic. I felt bad for King Satanu's son. He sacrificed so much to make his father happy sacrificing marriage, a family, and finding true love. I like how Bhishma was happy to take care and help his younger half brothers, rather than feeling salty that he would not be getting the throne. In the end. I really enjoyed getting to watch these Epified videos. It bring a refreshing take on the Mahabharata bringing it to life through its black and white drawings.
