Growth Mindset:Learning

Image
I watched the video, " Learning with Passion and Enthusiasm ." The video explained that there is a link between learning and being excited. Being excited makes it easier for children to learn, so there is a correlation between having dopamine released and being excited which then makes it easier to learn. That may be a reason children can learn new things easily such as languages because they are excited to learn. I was looking online about dopamine levels and I was thinking maybe always having more dopamine would be good for us (obviously not). Too much dopamine can cause problems such as aggression and euphoria. There must be a balance of dopamine within our system.                                                                               An image reminding us to let our minds grow. S...

Growth Mindset: Fear

Image
The article, "How to Get Over Your Fear in New Situations," is an article that speaks to me. I have a huge fear of getting outside of my comfort zone many times. Most of the time I would be happy staying in my comfort zone, yet at the same time I feel like I am missing out on plenty of experiences. By staying in my comfort zone I am not showing a growth mindset. For one, I am more of an introverted person, so spending some time at Barnes and Nobles reading books is my idea of fun. I get drained when hanging around alot of people and I need my alone time in order to recover. Since I am more introverted I tend to stay in my comfort zone not going out and having unnecessary anxiety. However, a lot of what I experience is all in my head. I loved how in the article they also said the solution to our problem is also in our head. I can not live in fear of not experiencing new things.                               ...

Growth Mindset: My Motto

Image
My motto I created on Cheezburger These words are important to me because many times we find ourselves constantly moving around not taking time to view our surroundings and just relax. I think it is important to take some time out of one's week to just relax and chill.

Growth Mindset: The Interview

Image
I was fortunate enough to talk to my friend Naomee about Growth Mindset. Naomee previously took Epics of India, so she was familiar with growth mindset; therefore, I wanted to find out whether or not growth mindset has impacted her life since she has taken the class. During our conversation she was telling me that with the creativity of the class and learning about various growth mindset concepts she was able to apply it to her studies and other aspects of her life enabling her to grow as an individual. She actually challenged me to pursue a growth mindset. Adopting a growth mindset is something that will help me not only during my last semester, but also outside of school.                                                                       Image portraying the growth of a mindset. Growth Mindset: Quotes

Image
F.I.S.H. "Failure is Success's Herald" That quote from a student stands out to me a lot. When I first saw F.I.S.H. I thought it was kind of silly, but when I read what it stood for my mind was changed. I am scared of failure and I still am. These fears of failure bring me down. I should not be afraid of failure. Overtime, if I continue and persist and better myself, success can arrive. It is through determination and perseverance that I can eventually succeed. L.I.F.E "Live It Fearlessly Everyday" I do not live life fearlessly everyday. Rather I live life with much caution and tend to take the safest route. Every choice I have made was to play the safe route. I even realize within college I rarely made choices that were risky, due to that I could fail. However, I need to make choices within my life that enable me to live life fearlessly. Just currently, I was not going to go on a trip during my gap year due to financial costs, but the trip I am planning on ...

Growth Mindset: The Power of Yet!

Image
The Growth Mindset video showing the importance of "yet" was extremely entertaining and inspirational. It has been forever since I have seen Sesame Street and it truly brought back wonderful childhood memories. Seeing the characters of Sesame Street struggling from schoolwork, to sports, to even cooking shows that everyone has struggled with one thing or another at one point in their lives. For me I struggled with Organic Chemistry. I never thought I would get through that class but it required plenty of dedication and determination. As people say, practice makes perfect, or near perfect hopefully. Also, can we talk about her amazing singing. I found myself moving along to that wonderful singing. It is interesting seeing a program like Sesame Street help develop a growth mindset within younger children, and it can still impact adults such as myself. Whoa is it weird calling myself an adult, makes me feel old. Anyway, the power of "yet" is extremely important and I w...

My Growth Mindset

Image
Before today, I have not heard of the term growth mindset. Professor Carol Dweck brings an interesting perspective on growth mindset. Many times when I am taking my Pre-Med courses I become fixed on aiming for the A in class. Setting the goal for an A is not bad at all but when that is one's only focus then that becomes a problem. Unfortunately, looking back at some of my classes that was the singular goal I had. Many classes were difficult and I aim for the highest grade possible, yet I did not challenge myself like I should have. This semester I will be challenging myself to adapt a growth mindset, in order to develop and mature my mind and how I approach tasks. Even though this is my last semester, it is never too late to take a growth mindset approach and hopefully, I can take that approach when I enter medical school.                                               ...
