Learning Challenge: Staying Focused

Image
I read the article, " 40 Entrepreneurs Share Their Secrets to Staying Focused". One thing I struggle with a lot would be staying focused. As soon as I start an assignment I tend to drift my eyes toward my phone or something else on the computer screen. That is really detrimental for me because many times I do not understand what is going on in class and it is terrible when I am doing timed assignments. However, focus problems can occur in all aspects of life, not just the student life.  Therefore, I wanted some advice from several entrepreneurs and see what works for them.  An entrepreneur, Amber Venz, from RewardStyle states that we should say no. I have a major problem with saying no. However, I am working on it. I told someone today that I would not be able to cover their shift because I was planning on working on my studies today. I think that is a major step to saying "no" more often. Within my life I never realized that by not saying no I was not staying focu...

Learning Challenge: I Wish My Teacher Knew

Image
The article in the New York Times website, " I Wish My Teacher Knew " was a sad but hopeful read to me. It is sad to see the challenges many students face that many times other students do not notice and teachers do not see. Utilizing this may open a teacher's eyes to the various struggles many kids face today. In addition, this can be a way to have a classroom be a space for students to open up to their teachers about problems they face within home and maybe various problems students face can be addressed.                                                                                      A random I wish my teacher knew. Learning Challenge: Desk Exercises

Image
I read the article, "6 Yoga Exercises You Won't Be Embarrassed to Do at Your Desk."   I thought the article was very informative and I sought to do the exercises myself. The shoulder roll exercises felt amazing. I did not know I needed that in my life until that moment. An exercise I could not do without breaking or misplacing some bone was the Reverse Prayer Pose. How do people do that? I tried the Reverse Prayer Pose and my hands could not fold like that behind my back. Is it just me or are other people having the same problem. Overall, I enjoyed this exercises!                                                                                                                       ...

Learning Challenge: Sleep

Image
I read a New York Times article called, "A n Underappreciated Key to College Success: Sleep," by Jane E. Brody. I thought the article was informative, it not only brought up scientific details as to how it affects students but gave plenty of examples as well. Sleep is valuable for everyone, even college students. It is difficult to go to bed at the same time everyday. My ideal goal was to go to bed by 11am everyday even on weekends, but sometimes I have friends that want to hangout even later than that because people are different schedules and availabilities, so it is difficult getting to bed early enough everyday. I am a morning person, so I need to make sure I go to bed early enough, so I get the proper amount of sleep because I like to wake up around 6 or 7am. I did drop one or two extracurriculars this year to focus on my studies more and get more sleep. My goal is to go to bed everyday by 11pm latest.                       ...

Learning Challenge: Endless Library

Image
I read the article, "Why You Should Surround Yourself With More Books Than You'll Ever Have Time to Read."   I personally have a book obsession. I go to a book store such as Barnes and Nobles to go buy a book, and the next day I never touch the book again. Therefore, I have a growing library of books that remain unread. I feel guilty many times, thinking maybe I should read the books I have before buying a new book. However, reading the article brought an interesting perspective to my life. Having all these books shows me that there are a lot of things I do not know. Thus, by having these books I thirst for more knowledge and I can achieve some more knowledge by going to the books I have. Buying these books is not good for my wallet, but having theses books does spark my curiosity for more knowledge.                                                   ...

Learning Challenge: Just Read!!!

Image
Watching the parody video of Uptown Funk, Unread Book , made me laugh. Sometimes you just have to pick up a book and read. I loved the effort they put into making the video. They did a great job and certainly made me want to pick up an unread book and read it. I loved all the references to various books within the video. I hope Bruno Mars saw that video, I can only image how he would react seeing it. Bruno Mars is one of my favorite artists. His style of music was excellent for this video. I will be picking up a new book to read! I am feeling "The Hobbit" after hearing the reference to it. I have never read the book, but I love fantasy so I can not wait to read it!                                                                         Had to include a picture of the famous, Bruno Mars. Learning Challenge: What we have in common

Image
The video " All That We Share" was interesting and brought about excellent points. There are so many differences among people, either through aspects such as culture or physical appearance. However, we as people have so many similarities. People have lost loved ones, experienced pain, had joyous moments within their lives, and those are just a few of the many things that can unite even the most "different" of people. People are put into categories, but there are so many gray areas that connect that connect various people from different groups. Who knows when reading the Indian myths, maybe we will find out that there are various aspects of the myths that are not so different from what we have grown up learning and even our daily lives.                                                                   This is an image fr...
