Week 2 Reading Overview

I am excited to start reading the Ramayana. I am not familiar with Indian epics so it will be a new and thrilling experience. I decided to read Narayan's edition of the Ramayana. First, it is exciting startinga new novel because I get to hold it in my hand and feel the pages as I turn each page. I love having a physical copy of a book with me rather than reading online. Plus, I am able to read the Ramayana in the same style of writing which I will enjoy. In addition, it is in a more modern style so it will be a little easier for me to understand.

Looking through the comics, the first comic I found interesting was "Pradyumna: Son of Krishna". This was interesting to me because it involves the topics of destiny and fate. When I was taking a class called "Vikings" at OU I loved learning about the fate of the gods and how people viewed fate and destiny during the time of the writings. I would love to read if Shambara is able to escape his destiny of death. Another comic I found interesting is "How the Jackal Ate the Elephant". The art design on the comic looks really interesting and I would love to find out how in the world a Jackal is able to eat an elephant. My guess is that their is a lot of deceit and slyness within the comic on the part of the Jackal.

One video that I found really interesting is the "Food for Gods" video. It is interesting to see how in myths certain foods have the power to make drastic changes. For example, in the video Sanjivani is a herb that gods have used to raise the dead for their own goals and ambitions. It would be interesting to find out what foods were important to the gods from the Indian epics. Another video I really enjoyed was the "Virtuous Demons" video. I would love to find out more about the various characters who are considered demons who make changes to redeem themselves and have more heroic qualities. Overall, I believe the Ramayana and their various comics and videos I viewed will be interesting and I can not wait to get started.
